For my sake! Before you read this, grab a glass of wine, juice or water. This blog just turned a year old.
This week, I didn’t get a chance to read any article but I finished this novel “shopaholic abroad” by Sophie Kinsella. It managed to take my mind off things and remember I have to remain sane for the rest of this short, crazy semester. How did your week go? What did you read? What music did you listen to? Did you travel? How was school? How was work? How did staying at home feel this time?
So, I randomly remembered I have this notebook from Jss3 where I write down the things I read and don’t want to forget. I glanced through it and I ran across the attitude topic.
“Attitude is everything” by Keith Harrell. I actually finished this book.
Now, attitude is everything because it is involved in everything. It’s like a cornerstone upon which we build our lives. It impacts our performance at work and our relationship. It is the state of mind to which we regard certain things. Attitude is the outward reflection of what resides on the inside.
It is normal to be faced with difficult challenges, disappointments, set back, problems and uncertainties but focus on being positive. This is something I’m getting used to and in as much as I face several challenges, I try to put on a smiling face. Smiling causes your brain to release a stream of chemicals that makes you feel good. Anyway that’s a post for another day. One thing for sure is I’m having a positive attitude wherever I go.
Our setback can be setups for even greater opportunities.
It’s normal to have a negative attitude, it’s what makes us humans. To change your attitude, you must change your heart. This simply means what we see through our eyes goes directly into our hearts frequently having a profound effect on our state of mind, sense of well-being; likewise, what we hear through our ears has the power to lift us up or drag us down.
Out of the issues of the heart, your mouth speaks.
If you are caught up with negative attitude, there are steps to developing a super-fantastic attitude. They are;
Choose to take charge of your life:
Accept responsibilities for what goes on inside your mind by monitoring your internal dialogue.
Reframe your bad attitude:
Shift your perspective and discover the power of self forgiveness.
Be pre-active:
Like I said earlier, it’s normal to be faced with difficult challenges and disappointments, set backs and problems but by developing pre-active approach to life you will become better prepared to handle the hazards you face in life.
Discover how to motivate yourself:
Read good books, interact with wise people and engage in several activities to keep your mind busy.
Build supportive relationships:
The friend you keep matters. I read a brilliant piece from a wonderful writer about friends at twenty. I tried to copy the link here but I don’t know why it isn’t working. I would drop it at the end of the blog or maybe comment section.
A merry heart does good like medicine.
Lastly, we should also know that negative attitude has the power to influence someone with positive attitude. Negative attitude dismantle teamwork, increases stress and cripples productivity.
The antidote to negative attitude is gratitude and forgiveness (self forgiveness and self awareness).
When your attitude improves so will your circumstance.
I hope you read this to the end and it was impactful.
Here are quick questions to reflect on:
What’s your personal definition of attitude?
How does your attitude reflect you?
Do you positively affect the view of those with whom you interact?
When was the last time your attitude made a difference. Good or bad?
Attitude is a choice. Adjust your attitude, keep yourself on track, focus on the possibilities for tomorrow and not the realities of the moment.
See you next time.
